Early Intervention
The first years of life are so important, and having a young
child with special needs can be overwhelming and intimidating.
InterActive Therapy Group has aided children and families through
this journey for over 10 years, making us leaders in the
administrative, diagnostic and treatment aspects of these services.
We understand that you know your child best, and we work not only
with your child, but with your whole family, to make sure we are
meeting your goals.
With professionals in all areas of development, from physical to
mental and emotional, InterActive Therapy Group has the expertise
to help children-and families-discover and reach their fullest
potential.
We participate with the Early Intervention Program in Long Island
(Nassau County). Services start with a referral to the Early
Intervention Program in your County. Contact us to help you make a
referral, or have us do it for you. Once your child has been
referred, you are assigned a service coordinator who will assist
you in getting through the system. You have the right to choose any
evaluator on their list of State-approved evaluators. We are an
approved evaluator, but there are also others for you to choose
from. We provide team evaluations as well as single discipline
evaluations in the following areas of development:
- Cognitive
- Communication
- Physical
- Adaptive Behavior
- Social-Emotional
The team will typically consist of a generalist and a
specialist. The generalist will be a special education teacher or a
psychologist and the specialist will be a professional from the
areas of main concern.
For example if a child's main concern is communication, then the
team may consist of a special education teacher and a
speech-language pathologist. We have a staff of licensed and/or
certified professionals in the following areas:
- Speech-Language Pathology
- Special Education
- Occupational Therapy
- Physical Therapy
- Psychology
Evaluations will be conducted in the child's natural
environment, whether it is your home or your child's day
care.
Depending on the results of your child's evaluation, services may
be recommended. Frequency, duration, and location of services will
be decided through a collaborative effort between the family, the
evaluator(s) and the EI service coordinator. The result will be an
Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) that will guide the
services for your family. If your child does not meet the criteria
to qualify for services paid by Early Intervention, then you can
choose to enroll your child in ITG's Advantage Program.
The Early Intervention Program (EIP) is a public program for
infants and toddlers with special needs. If you have concerns about
your child's development, you can call the EIP in the county in
which you reside to refer your child. Someone else can help you
make the referral to the EIP if you wish. If your child is found to
be eligible for services by someone approved to perform this
evaluation, you, your county staff, and other team members will
make a plan to help your child and family. Early intervention
services in your plan and authorized by your county are provided at
no cost to you. The county will arrange for the services to be
provided and will choose the provider based on the needs of your
child and family. Your child's health insurance may be used to
cover some of the costs. All other costs for EIP services are paid
for by your county and New York State. Early Intervention services
are provided where it is best for your child-in places such as your
home, daycare other community settings. The EIP covers the cost of
early intervention services only. The EIP does not pay for daycare
or other fees charged by community settings. Interactive Therapy
Group is approved by New York State and has contracts with the
counties listed below to provide early intervention services.
